SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Genie Lamar Williams, 38, formerly of Cairo, died Nov. 10, 2008
Born July 23, 1970, in Cairo, to Arnetta Garrett Williams and the late Genie Williams Sr., he was a 1987 graduate of Cairo High School and attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where he was a member of the football team. He was employed as an over the road truck driver.
In addition to his mother, survivors include: two sons, Genie Williams Jr. and Andre Williams of Mounds; fiancee Tracy Wright of Springfield; eight brothers, Gary Williams of Houston, Anthony Garrett and Darrell Williams of Cairo, Clemie Williams, Ceotis Williams, Sylvester Williams and Ricky Williams of Chicago and Joseph Williams of Las Vegas; and 12 sisters, Debra Johnson of Buffalo, Texas, Vernetta Reed and Rosita Williams of Memphis, Tenn., Vonda Irish, Lohoma Williams and Regina Wells of Cairo, Tina Scott, Reola Clayton and Sharon Williams of Chicago and Ramona Kee, Angela Kee and Diane Kee of Nashville, Tenn.
Visitation is scheduled from noon until time of services at 1 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church, located at 19th and Martin Luther King Street in Cairo. The Rev. Daryl K. Cox, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Spencer Heights Memorial Park Cemetery in Mounds.
Williams Funeral Home of Charleston, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
