DEXTER -- Eva Geneva Pauline Ross Stewart, 87, died Nov. 13, 2008, at her home.
Born Jan. 31, 1921, in Puxico, to the late Charles Monroe Ross and Grace Louise Ella Kanady Ross, she was the oldest and a very active member of the New Bethel General Baptist Church, which she joined on Aug. 18, 1940. In 1958 she opened Eva's Café on Park Lane Street in Dexter. Over the years she worked at Pete's Café and The Airport Café. She also worked for Inland Oil Company. The last years before her retirement she was the head cook for the Senior Citizens Center in Dexter.
On Oct. 22, 1938, in Dexter, she married Coleman Norris Stewart who preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 2000.
She was also preceded in death by: two daughters, Bonnie Louise Stewart and Nina Catherine Stewart Slinkard; five brothers, Baby Ross, Charles Ross, Billie Joe Ross, Donald Ross and John Ross; and five sisters, Helen Bernand, Ruth Hausmann, Thelma Ray, Delma Pry and Nora Ross.
Survivors include: one son and daughter in-law, Mikel Arnold and Sandra Roemer Stewart of Ste. Genevieve; two daughters and one son-in-law, Lydia Ann and Paul C. Denton of Hale, Mich. and Nancy Marie Stewart Shipman of Farmington; one sister, LaVerne Holt of Benton; and 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, where services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Revs. Dean Williams, Ray Placher and Joe Ogelvie will officiate.
Burial will follow in The Old Bethel Cemetery.
