Nov. 17, 1948

SIKESTON - Myra Tanner, who has taught in the Sikeston school system for several year, has resigned her position as sixth grade teacher at the Bailey School for health reasons. She is being replaced by Mrs. Billy Keith.

Nov. 17, 1968

SIKESTON - Harry C. Blanton will be guest speaker at the annual Federal Land Bank Association meeting at the American Legion Hall on Dec. 5.

SIKESTON - A union Thanksgiving service sponsored by the Sikeston Ministerial Alliance will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the North Acres General Baptist Church. The Rev. Ronald Austin, pastor of Illinois Avenue General Baptist Church, will deliver the sermon, "In All Things Give Thanks."

Nov. 17, 1988

SIKESTON - Mark Hill from Troop 43 and Kevin Newcomb, Pack 40, were among the Boy Scouts from the Sikeston area who brought in donated food to be packaged and shipped to the Sikeston Bootheel Regional Food Bank Saturday. The food drive was part of a nationwide effort by the Scouts, Scouting for Food. The food was collected from bags the Scouts left at homes earlier. The area goal was for 12,000 cans of food.

SIKESTON - Sikeston area residents don't appear to be knocking down doors to obtain radon gas testers. Radon became a household word in mid-September when the Environmental Protection Agency issued a national advisory urging radon testing in most homes in the nation. The agency estimates that radon causes up to 20,000 lung cancer deaths a year.
