EAST PRAIRIE -- Lela Bell Woods Grimes, 88, died at 2:35 a.m. Nov. 6, 2008, at her home.
Born Nov. 29, 1919, in Mississippi County, to the late George Harrison and Ethel Mae Thurman Woods, she had lived her entire life in East Prairie where she was a member of the Barnes Ridge Baptist Church.
On Jan. 9, 1937, she married Raymond Grimes who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons, Larry Grimes and Jerry Grimes of East Prairie; one daughter, Pamela Jernigan of East Prairie; one brother, L.C. Woods of East Prairie; two sisters, Inez Newman of St. Louis and Joann Winslow of the state of South Carolina; and 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Danny Grimes and Michael Grimes; three daughters, Loretta Woods, Elizabeth Grimes and Deloris Grimes; two brothers, Bob Woods and Gene Woods; one sister, Genevieve Haney; and three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Visitation is scheduled from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Johnson, pastor of the Victory Baptist Church of East Prairie, will officiate.
Burial will follow under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.
Pallbearers will be: Buddy Jernigan, James Gregory, Jeff Moses, Mike Johnson, Jeff Grimes and Joseph Gregory.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Green and Jeremy Hencey.
