SIKESTON -- John B. Tharp, 74, died Nov. 15, 2008, in Ellington.
Born Jan. 21, 1934, in Nady, Ark., to the late John Henry and Oda Lucas Mitchell Tharp, he formerly attended the General Baptist Church in Bertrand. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Korean War.
On Oct. 26, 1968, in Anniston, he married Alice Elizabeth Elrod who survives of the home.
Also surviving are: one son, Jimmy Elrod of Sikeston; three daughters, Sheila Souther of Goleta, Calif., Rose Basshan of San Bruno, Calif., and Shirley Tannahill of Caldwell, Idaho; two sisters, Mariam Confer of Julian, Penn., and Peggy Smith of Tichnor, Ark.; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Services were conducted Monday at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Gammons of the Lilbourn Pentecostal Church officiating,
Burial followed in the Dogwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Richard Kolwyck, Michael Kolwyck, Robert Kolwyck, Brandon Kolwyck, Josh Kolwyck and Chad Fetters.
