SIKESTON - Fire destroyed a two-story frame apartment building at 421 Harris St. last night, causing an estimated $20,000 in damage and chasing six families out into the driving rain.

SIKESTON - As the city grows, the need for emergency preparedness also increases, say emergency management leaders. Director of Public Safety Mike Phelan told the Sikeston City Council in its weekly briefing session this morning that the city needs an additional three warning sirens. The city currently has two.

MATTHEWS - The new Little and Miss Big Prairie were recently crowned during fall festival activities. Queen is Alexi Vaughn, 4-year-old daughter of Daniel and Kristi Vaughn of Sikeston. King Lawton Mikel Wilson, is the 3-year-old son of Mikel and Tonya Wilson of Portageville.
