TRENTON -- Sikeston-native Julian Beard scored a game-high 27 points on Saturday in Marshalltown Community College's win over North Central Missouri College 94-88 in the NCMC Classic.

Beard, a sophomore for the Tigers (5-1), had five 3-pointers in the opening half but MCC trailed 52-47 at halftime.

Marshalltown hit a scoring spurt midway through the second half that erased a double-digit deficit and gave the Tigers the lead.

Beard finished the night with seven 3-pointers in his 27-point outing.

"You can't say enough about Julian Beard. He hit a few 3-pointers and got us back in the game," MCC head coach Brynjar Brynjarsson told the Times-Republican in Marshalltown, Iowa. "It was a great team effort tonight."

On Friday night, Beard also played a key role for the Tigers as they held off State Fair Community College 83-73.

Beard scored 17 points in the game, which was his season-high before Saturday night's offensive explosion.

"Julian played a nice game offensively and defensively and really shot the ball like we knew he was capable of," Brynjarsson told the Times-Republican.

MCC was back in action Tuesday at home against Iowa Central. Results from the game weren't known at press time.
