MINER - Residents of Miner are voting today on a franchise agreement, which if passed will allow the REA Electrical Cooperation to serve Miner. A simple majority is required for passage.
SIKESTON - Mayor Bill Burch told the Sikeston Development Council that now is the time to start a selection process to find delegates for a goodwill trip to Yeochon City, South Korea. A delegation from Yeochon City visited Siekston last month as part of a sister city program. Burch made the comments at the SDC's November meeting Monday night.

SIKESTON - Owner of Connie's Unique Collectibles and family members gathered with Sikeston city officials Monday for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the store on the corner of Kingshighway and Center Street.
SIKESTON - The Elks Lodge "Just Say No" Club gathered more than 9,000 cans of food for the Standard Democrat's Community Christmas Campaign. With 2,137 cans, the Sikeston Middle School won the contest. Second place went to the Kindergarten with 1,668. Southeast Elementary brought in 1,584 to capture third place and fourth place Southwest Elementary School collected 1,217 cans.
