STEELE -- Two Pemiscot County residents were injured and one died as a result of two separate accidents that occurred near Steele.
According to the Missouri state Highway Patrol, at around 11:15 a.m. Friday a southbound vehicle driven by Gary D. Ellis, 64, of Greenville failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Missouri Highway 164 and Route F four miles west of Steele and struck a westbound vehicle driven by Thelma C. Sanders, 59, of Steele.
Sanders sustained serious injuries and was transported by air ambulance to the Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, Tenn. A passenger in Sanders' vehicle, Burlee S. Sanders, 78, of Steele, was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the Pemiscot County morgue.
No injuries were reported for Ellis.
A separate incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Saturday on County Road 431 two miles north of Steele when the eastbound vehicle driven by Wesley K. Legg, 16, of Steele, ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned.
A passenger in Legg's vehicle, 19-year-old Brian K. Heathcock of Steele, sustained minor injuries and was transported by private vehicle to Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital.
No injuries were reported for Legg.
