SIKESTON - Sarah Reid, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Reid, celebrated her fourth birthday Monday afternoon with a party at her home.

CHARLESTON - Mr. and Mrs. Gene McConachie of Charleston are parents of a daughter born at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Dec. 3, 1968

ORAN - Petitions calling for a care center for the elderly to be built near the center of Scott County have reached 700 signatures, according to Abram Hirschowitz. Needed to place the building of a new home on the ballot are 1,000 signatures.

SIKESTON - In the Christmas Homes tour Dec. 17 will be the home of Mrs. William R. Moore, 5 Cotton Trace. A guided tour will feature family type decorations with emphasis on a child-oriented room.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Public Library will lose a longtime staff member at the beginning of 1989. At the end of the year, Lucille Martin, assistant librarian and staff member for 26 years, will retire.

SIKESTON - Sikeston sophomore Marcie Eaves had a career and game-high 28 points against Notre Dame Wednesday night at the Sikeston Field House. Eaves was 10-of-14 from the free-throw line also, but her efforts went unrewarded as Notre Dame won 61-39.

SIKESTON - Missouri's 11-day firearm deer season began on Nov. 14 and ended Nov. 24. New Madrid County checked 90 deer, Pemiscot County checked 30, Dunklin County checked 71, Mississippi County checked 200, Scott County checked 238 and Stoddard County checked 626. Statewide, hunters checked 194,7660 deer.
