SIKESTON - Private First Class Maurice F. Righter, son of Mrs. W.L. Righter of Sikeston, was awarded a Bronze Star medal at the Atlanta General Depot on Dec. 2.

LILBOURN - Seventy-eight guests attended the fourth annual Senior Citizens Party in Lilbourn, sponsored by the Senior Citizens Committee of Missouri Community Development, Civic Improvement Club, Kiwanis Club, volunteer fire department and local churches.

SIKESTON - A successful muscular dystrophy fund drive by Elks Lodge 2319 Saturday at highway intersections brought $180 toward the $500 goal, Chairman Jim Baker announced today.

SIKESTON - St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Joe Magrane signed autographs while conducting an interview during the Southeast Missouri Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame induction banquet Saturday night at the Sikeston Field House. Magrane, who won the National League's earned run average title last season, despite a 5-9 record, was the guest speaker for the evening.

ORAN - Sixth-seeded Gideon pulled off their second upset in the 43rd Annual Oran Invitational Thursday night, knocking off Scott Central 69-68 to earn a shot at Kelly in the finals tonight.

MINER - Ada "Granny" Sullenger of Marston was presented an award at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Miner recently in recognition of 23 years of perfect attendance at Sunday school. The Rev. Donny Haynes, pastor, made the presentation. "I don't want any glory for receiving this pin," said Sullenger. "God should get all the glory for allowing me to attend." She is celebrating her 91st birthday today.
