CAMPBELL-- The Risco Tigers outlasted the East Prairie Eagles to win the consolation game of the Campbell Invitational 67-63 Friday night in Campbell.
It was the Eagles who came out hot Friday, taking a seven point lead over the Tigers after the first quarter. But, Risco's Brandon Bennett scored 16 of the Tigers 22 second quarter points to take a lead that Risco would not relinquish. Bennett finished the night with 25 points.
"This was a big win for us," Tigers head coach Brandon Blankenship said after the win. "This was for consolation in the Campbell Tournament. It was a good game all the way through and very tight down the stretch. Brandon Bennett had great game for us."
Risco moves to a record of 2-1 after the win.
The Tigers Ross Carter and East Prairie's M.C. Williams were both named to the Campbell Invitational all-tournament team.
SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Bulldogs ninth grade basketball team defeated the Poplar Bluff Mules 61-37 at the Sikeston Junior High Gymnasium Thursday night.
Sikeston's Keldon Warfield led the way for the Bulldogs, scoring 20 points.
Sikeston coach Chris Sarakas was pleased with his team's performance Thursday night.
"We came out very aggressive defensively and put a lot of pressure on them," he said. "We pressed pretty hard and were able to force some turnovers. Just as important, we were able to finish our layups off of those turnovers. Our guys came out tonight and left it all on the court, we couldn't have asked for from our team."
In eighth grade action, Sikeston (5-0) defeated Poplar Bluff 39-37 Thursday night. Sikeston was led in scoring by Markeith Bratcher with nine points.
