SIKESTON - Everett William Hays Sr., 90, died at 9:50 a.m. Dec. 12, 2008, at his son's home in Sikeston.
Born May 6, 1918, in Hartman, Ark., to the late James Washington and Edna Mae Brotherton Hays, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed in the propane gas industry for 40 years retiring from MFA Oil Company of Charleston. Also he worked for Phillips LP Gas of Charleston, Small's LP Gas of Wyatt, Empire Gas of Sikeston and Wigdor LP Gas of Charleston. He was a member of First United Pentecostal Church.
On Nov. 15, 1944, in Sikeston, he married Nola Mae "Diddie" Hampton, who preceded him in death on May 4, 2002.
Also preceding him in death were one brother and two sisters.
Survivors include: four sons and daughters-in-law, Everett W. and Imogene Hays Jr. of Pontoon Beach, Ill., Mike and Cissy Hays of Goose Creek, S.C., Dennis and Sheila Hays of Wappapello and Stephen and Franny Hays of Sikeston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and William Dixon of Washington, Ill., and Mary Jane and Joey Pierce of Sikeston; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Mary Hays of Sikeston; one sister, Georgia Davidson of Sikeston; and 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two special friends, Joyce and Raymond Greer of Sikeston.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Richard Whitman, pastor of the First United Pentecostal Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Richard Hampton, Doug Ritch, Rick Hays, Joey Paul Pierce, Justin Winkler, Greg Dixon and Gary Hampton.
