Portageville boys and girls both collect wins

Bulldogs defeat Hayti Friday, Twin River on Saturday

HAYTI -- The Portageville basketball team rallied from a third quarter deficit and defeated Hayti 72-57 Friday night.

The Bulldogs trailed 41-31 midway through the third quarter and pulled within one point, 43-42 heading into the fourth quarter. Portageville then scored 30 points in the final frame to defeat Hayti.

Portageville was led by Dometric Treadwell's 16 points while Bruce Mathis chipped in 13. Byron Wright and Royden Booker added 12 and 11 respectively.

Denzel Presberry and Doriyon West led Hayti with 14 points each while Andrew Luster scored 12 and Keenan Williams 10.

Portageville also won the junior varsity game 49-44 behind Fred Treadwell's 17 points.

The Bulldogs then traveled to Three Rivers Community College on Saturday and defeated the Twin Rivers Royals 64-47.

Portageville led by three after three quarters but once again a big fourth quarter turned into a big win for the Bulldogs.

Portageville (4-0) was led by Donnell Minnis' 21 points. Wright pumped in 18 while Dometric Treadwell chipped in 10 for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Jackson to take on the Saxony Lutheran Crusaders.

Girls Basketball

Portageville 67, Twin Rivers 33

The Portageville girls kept their record perfect on the season Saturday, defeating Twin Rivers 67-33 at Three Rivers Community College.

The Lady Bulldogs (7-0) used a big second quarter to take a 35-20 into the locker rooms at halftime. They then held the Lady Royals to only 13 second half points as Portageville cruised to the win.

Jaleea Drake led the Lady Bulldogs with 22 points while Brittany Walker added 17 points.

The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action tonight when they travel to Campbell to take on the Lady Camels.
