SIKESTON -- A rural Sikeston man has been found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action in connection with a 2007 murder.

The trial of Lee Roy "Chuck" King II, of 7698 Route E in rural Sikeston, began on Wednesday in Butler County, due to a change of venue. King was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action for the March 2007 shooting death of Richard L. Sterling, 37, of Morehouse.

The verdict was handed down Friday evening, according to the Butler County Circuit Clerk's office.

According to initial reports from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, a call was received around 9:30 p.m. March 27 outside Cronies Sports Bar and Grill in reference to the shooting. Upon arrival, they found Sterling lying on the ground east of the business. Sterling had apparently been shot several times with a shotgun and was pronounced dead at the scene.
