Dec. 29, 1948

SIKESTON - Due to misleading reports concerning charges being made at the new Missouri Delta Community Hospital, a correct list of such charges has been received. Patients occupying wards, $6 per day; semi-private rooms, $8 per day; private rooms, $10 per day. To the above charges will be added $25 for major surgery, $20 for minor surgery or obstetrical cases with general anesthetic and $15 for minor surgery or medical cases with local anesthetic. The charges include the use of operating and delivery rooms, routine X-ray, routine laboratory tests and medications except for special drugs such as streptomycin, etc. A charge will be made for the meals of special nurses, visitors and for private telephones and special prescriptions.

NEW MADRID - Jesse Wilkins, county clerk, said today Gov. Warren Hearnes is expected to appoint a person to fill the two-year unexpired term of Magistrate Judge Eric Wright, who died Wednesday.

SIKESTON - Dr. John Ritter, of Cape Girardeau, displayed some of the objects he brought back from Liberia Monday at the Smith United Methodist Church. Ritter picked up the objects while doing missionary work in Africa. The exhibit was part of the celebration of Kwanzaa in Sikeston which continues through Jan. 1.

SIKESTON - The Department of Public Safety reported a burglary at Beck's Auto Detail, located at 102 W. Murray. According to DPS, sometime after 5 p.m. Sunday, a suspect entered the building by forcing open the front door. Taken was an assorted socket set, a buffer, compact disc player and an assortment of magazines. Total estimated loss was $1,680.
