SIKESTON - Scott Skinner, 18, sees the world from the enforcement side of the law. The Sikeston High School senior rides with Sikeston Department of Public Safety officers on patrol. He is one of 10 in the DPS cadet program. "The program helps young people become better aware of what police do," said Community Relations Officer Rick Toon.

SIKESTON - Charles Edwards Nichols III was the first child born in the new year at Sikeston's Missouri Delta Medical Center, arriving at 10:48 a.m. Jan. 1. He weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces, and measured 19.5 inches long. His mother is Lafonda Jackson of East St. Louis.
