BERTRAND -- Jackie Marshall Hicks, 73, died at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 31, 2008, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born July 24, 1935, in Diehlstadt, to the late Luchen Marshall and Leona Brooks Hicks, he lived his entire life in Mississippi County. He began a lifelong career in construction with his father-in-law, Harvey Lee Jobe of Jobe Construction, and in 1987 went to work for his son, Steve Hicks of the Hicks Construction company, until his retirement. A member of the Cornerstone Church in Bertrand, he was also a member of the VFW of Charleston and the Sikeston Elks Club.
On May 22, 1954, he married Patricia Ann Jobe who preceded him in death on Sept. 16, 2005.
One infant sister, Patsy Ruth Hicks, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include: two sons, Steve Hicks and Jeffrey Hicks of Charleston; one daughter, Marsha Yancey of Sedalia; three sisters, Freda Michael of Newark, Calif., Viola Bailey of Vancouver, Wash., and Jean Lee of Sikeston; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. David Cullen will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Maynard Cemetery near Diehlstadt.
Pallbearers will be: Stephen Hicks, Gary Yancey, Ron Beasley, Bill Warren, Lee Welch and Richard Logan.
