SIKESTON -- The Poplar Bluff Mules wrestling team downed the Sikeston Bulldogs 54-15 in duel meet action Tuesday at the Sikeston Field House.

Highlights of the Bulldogs outing included a pin victory by Sikeston's Faylon Marshall and the Bulldogs Kenton Robinson's victory with a 2-point take down to win 8-6 as time expired in the third period.

Mules head coach Brian Wisdom felt his team made mistakes coming off the Christmas break, but was pleased with the overall effort.

"We are coming off Christmas break and haven't had anything for about two weeks," Wisdom pointed out. "We are just looking to get back into things and see what is going on. It's kind of like starting the season over again. We did alright tonight, even with a few mistakes. We have a couple of things to work on but we were able to get that past us and get the win."

Sikeston's head coach Kent Gibbs felt his squad showed aggression at many points in Tuesday's duel meet.

"There were some matches tonight that we were very aggressive in and some that we weren't aggressive enough," Gibbs said. "My thing is that we want to be aggressive in every match no matter what. We are inexperienced so we don't have that yet. But we are going to get there."

Gibbs emphasized the need to practice better over the long Christmas break.

"The big thing is we have to have good Christmas break practices," he said. "They weren't as good as they needed to be this break."

Sikeston's Jakhil Valentine is taken to the mat by Poplar Bluff's Chance Berry in the 160 pound class Tuesday night.
Gibbs noted that his team is making progress.

"Poplar Bluff has a good program and their kids work hard. We look to use these dual meets to learn and get better in order to wrestle better in the tournaments," Gibbs said. "I felt we did that tonight, even if the score doesn't reflect that."
