SPRINGFIELD -- William "Dub" Chism passed away January 6, 2009.
He was born in Sikeston on Oct. 11, 1930, to Barney and Mabel Chism. After graduating from Sikeston High School, Dub joined the Navy. While home on leave he married Melba Clark on Aug. 19, 1952. They lived and worked in the St. Louis area for over 30 years, before retiring and moving to Purdy in 1993. There, Dub enjoyed his small farm and the many new friendships he made. He loved nothing more than getting together with his friends at a local cafe. The couple moved to Springfield in 2000.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, Dub is survived by his sister, Margaret Dinkins; four children Fritz, Tim and wife Leslie, Teresa and husband Bobby Wood and Cindy Hinkle; and 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. .
In 2002, his children gave their parents a Cruise to Alaska as a 50 anniversary gift, which was special to Dub being Alaska made the last state Dub had to visit to have been in all 50 states.
Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home in Springfield. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Park Crest Assembly of God Church.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Sikeston Memorial Park Cemetery.
