SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. Tanner C. Dye celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Jan. 9. They were complemented with a surprise party planned by their sons, Jo and Bob, and assisted by Lu Craft.

40 years ago

Jan. 9, 1969

SIKESTON - The Southeast Missouri Computer Service Center, which will serve as a processing center for the records of several Southeast Missouri banks, is under construction on Highway 61 South in Sikeston. Ryan Construction is the general contractor.

Jan. 9, 1989

DEXTER - Four banks have purchased an interest in the Dexter $1 million combined waterworks and sewerage system revenue bonds and include Citizens First Financial Bank, Mercantile First County Bank NA, First Financial Bank of Southeast Missouri and Cape County Bank. A 20-year bond with staggered maturities and call features prior to maturity on the bonds has been approved.

SIKESTON - Today's Youth Athlete profile is on Demetrius Johnson, who plays for the First Christian team in the Sikeston Junior High Basketball League. He is a 14-year-old seventh grader at Sikeston Middle School.

SIKESTON - There may be no rivalry greater than Sikeston/Charleston rivalry. Friday night's game between the two schools was postponed due to inclement weather, but it will be rescheduled to keep this long rivalry going.

NEW MADRID - Christian Curtis creates duck calls in his shop in New Madrid for his company, Timbre Duck Calls. Using native woods as well as wood from Central America, Curtis has turned out nearly 200 duck calls in the last two years while also earning a reputation as a top duck caller in the United States.
