Ice again stops newspaper delivery

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

The icy conditions have stopped drivers throughout the Bootheel. It has also stopped the home delivery of the newspaper because the office was without power on Wednesday. Publication of the newspaper will continue online until power is restored. Josh Mills, Staff
SIKESTON - The Standard Democrat offices were without power all of Wednesday.

Readers will find all available stories scheduled for the Wednesday edition free online.

There will be no home delivery of the newspaper to ensure the safety of our employees and to abide by law enforcement's request that only essential travel should be conducted today.

Due predictions of continued problems with the Sikeston power system, the newspaper will be published again on Thursday online only. We are in hopes that the power will be restored to the building by Friday to enable the staff to produce a limited edition for press publication by the weekend.

"We hope readers understand that we are making every effort to provide them with the latest information and news about this current weather situation," said Michael Jensen, publisher. "The new technology has the benefit of being able to post our stories online but without electricity it hinders our ability to deliver a hard copy to subscribers."
