YMCA members try out the new facilities Friday on its first day open.

The YMCA of Southeast Missouri's new state-of-the-art facility was originally slated to open the day the ice storm shut the entire city down, according to Jeff Partridge, executive director of the Y.
With the whole city staggering from the natural disaster and the extended power outage, the opening was put on hold. "Our power came back either Wednesday night or early Thursday morning," Partridge said.
