Drainage issues discussed

CHARLESTON -- Drainage projects -- past and proposed -- were the main topics of discussion for Mississippi County commissioners during their regular meeting Thursday.

Donnie Sams advised commissioners he may need to file a lawsuit to resolve a problem that that started two years ago with unauthorized ditch excavation work alongside his farm land on County Road 312.

Sams first brought the problem to the attention of the County Commission in January 2007 after Brad Hequembourg, who owns land adjacent to Sams', hired Bill Schlosser to do ditch excavation work on a county road drainage ditch without permission from the county.

"It wasn't properly done," Presiding Commissioner Jim Blumenberg recalled of the project.
