DEXTER -- Dexter's Katelyn Heil is the perfect example of a team player.

When asked about being named the Standard Democrat's Girls Player of the Year for the second year in a row, the senior was quick to point to her teammates.

"I would be nowhere without my team," Heil said. "The assists that I got from Jill (Temples) bringing the ball down and the rebounds by Ashlee (Taylor) and the whole team overall. That's why I'm successful, because of our whole team. We all feed off each other and we did really well this year."

And leading the way for Dexter was the ever-humble Heil. The senior averaged 20.3 points per game and set a school-record for most points in a season (608). She also had a school record 43 points in a Feb. 19 game against Twin Rivers, topping her old record of 42 points in a game she shared with Heather Galloway. Heil also hit 72 3-pointers on the season, another school record, and leaves Dexter as the second-leading scorer in school history. In addition, she was awarded the Gray Award for the top girls player in the SEMO Conference for the second straight year.
