Fundraising efforts begin to restore building

NEW MADRID -The "magnificent and beautiful appointed theatre building is, beyond doubt, the most modernly equipped theatre between St. Louis and Memphis" the newspaper exclaims.

The story, from the July 26, 1935, New Madrid Weekly Record, boasts of the building's major renovation and expansion as a movie theatre.

Today, the paint is fading and the roof is leaking, but the pride in the Dixie remains. Those that know the building on the town's Main Street insist it should be saved.
