The lake at the Sikeston Sports Complex was encircled by youngsters eager to cast a line Saturday during the Sikeston Parks and Recreation Division's annual Kids' Fishing Derby. Thanks to some 800 pounds of fish which were added to the lake on Friday, the children weren't disappointed reeling in some prize fish throughout the morning. It wasn't just fish either, youngsters reported reeling in mussels, turtles and, exclaimed one child as he examined his hook, "I caught a worm!" According to Jiggs Moore, Parks and Recreation Division director, approximately 100 youngsters took part in the event. Throughout the morning attendance prizes were awarded to participants as well as prizes for the biggest fish caught and most pounds weighed in within a five fish limit. Winners will be announced at a later date.
