SIKESTON -- Sikeston businesses have the opportunity to step into a game board this fall, as the Sikeston Young Professionals are designing a "Sikestonopoly" game.
"We're customizing the game to our community," said Ryan Meredith, a steering committee member for the SYP.
Another SYP steering committee member, Ben Alcorn, came up with the idea when the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce, which his business also belongs, sold advertising for its own game, Bluffopoly.
"We were looking for a way to raise money as Sikeston Young Professionals, so I inquired about it," said Alcorn.
And after that, the idea took off.
Marcie Lawson, another steering committee member, said she talked to members of the Poplar Bluff organization to get more information, then brought that back to other SYP members.
"And we all thought it was a great idea," she said. "This is a way we thought that we, as young professionals, could leave our mark on Sikeston."
