Wednesday, December 9, 2009

Bobby Eskew, left, and Jess Phillips of the Scott County highway department prepare the grader blade attached to the back of a tractor Tuesday at the department's shop. The department began using the 10-foot blade attachment last year to assist its two motor graders with snow and ice removal in the county.

SIKESTON -- With some rain and light snow in the forecast, highway maintenance workers say they're prepared for the winter season.

"We're ready to go -- we just hope we don't have to go," said Norman Brant, Scott County Highway Department supervisor.

A slight chance of snow is forecast for Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

"We've been going through the salt spreaders and making sure they work fine and our dump trucks to make sure they hook up to the salt spreaders. We checked the chains and made sure they're ready to put on the trucks."
