ORAN -- The Scott Central Lady Braves couldn't match up against the Oran Lady Eagles on Monday evening as they fell 63-32 on the road. Oran doubled Scott Central's score after one, 14-7, then more than tripled it by halftime as they led 44-13.
Markita Mosley and Daisy Gillespie put together a solid first half for the Lady Braves but without much of a supporting cast the Lady Eagles were able to have their way on the glass and on the press. Oran scored 30 points in the second quarter behind 10 points from Cheyanne King and six from Abbey Anderson.
The bench was emptied in the second half for Oran head coach Adam Friga and his Lady Eagles' squad. They tacked on 10 points in the third quarter and nine in the fourth while Scott Central did the exact opposite, scoring nine in the third and 10 in the fourth.
Friga said after the game that the contest provided a good opportunity to work some more on their defensive game. The work paid off as they ripped off steal after steal and turned the Lady Braves' miscues into points.
"We're just trying to get better defensively," said Friga. "That's our emphasis of what we've got to do to win ballgames. Every day, regardless of the score, that's what we're going to be working on."
Oran saw contribution from seven players on the night, with 18 points coming from post player King. Haley Glastetter added 14 and Anderson finished with 11.
"Abbey and Cheyanne have been playing together basically their whole lives," Friga said of Anderson and King. "They play real well together and they compliment each other. I think they're going to get nothing but better. And Haley (Glastetter) helps us out a lot on defense."
Most of Glastetter's points came following one of her many steals. Others scoring for the Lady Eagles were Claire Seyer and Shelbie Seyer who both finished with six apiece, and Shelby Unger and Bethany Asmus who both tacked on four apiece.
Scott Central was led by Mosley, who finished the night with 14 points while going 6-for-9 at the line. Gillespie added eight on two field goals and 4-of-6 shooting at the line. Katie Ruedrich and Denise McClinton each added four apiece.
Oran is now 2-2 on the season and will host South Pemiscot on Thursday evening.
