CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston Bulldogs wrestling team finished 11th out of 17 total teams at the 36th annual Tiger Classic on Saturday.

Sophomore Blake Angle finished in fourth place in the 112-pound division while Jacob Stinnett, a freshman, wound up sixth in the 119-pound weight class. Cody Middleton and Dustin Wells each finished in seventh place. Middleton, a freshman, competed in the 103-pound division while Wells, a junior, was in the 135-pound class.

"I think for the most part we are quite pleased with how we wrestled this weekend," Sikeston head coach Seth Harrell said. "We took 10 guys up there and just about all of them had at least two wins. That's huge."

Sikeston ended in a tie for 11th place with University City. Each school scored 94 points on the day.

"Our goal was to finish in the top 10," Harrell said. "We got pretty close as we ended up in 11th. Probably the highest we have been in a while. We had some tough matches that didn't go our way, but we also had some that worked out for us."

Ozark High School finished in the top spot as they totaled 320.5 points. Jackson finished second with 292.5 points while Northwest, Rolla and Fort Zumwalt North rounded out the top-five.

Cape Central finished ninth with 128 points while Dexter ended up 13th with 86 points.

"I thought that we were very competitive," Harrell said. "It's good to face tough competition like this because it reminds you how hard you have to work to compete at a high level."

Sikeston will be off the mat until Jan. 5 when they travel to Poplar Bluff.
