Slick roads lead to wrecks

SIKESTON -- The region's first snow storm wreaked havoc on Missouri roadways Thursday and left at least two Southeast Missouri residents dead.

An Advance woman died of injuries sustained after the vehicle she was riding in overturned in a water-filled ditch in Stoddard County.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 5:50 a.m. as Billy D. Lee, 76, of Bloomfield was traveling on Highway 25, three miles north of Advance, when his vehicle ran off the road and overturned in a water-filled ditch. Lee's passenger, Helen C. Lee, 75, was transported by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau where she was pronounced dead at 7:48 a.m. Lee sustained moderate injuries and was also taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center.
