CHARLESTON -- For the second time in as many years, the Charleston Bluejays are seeking a head football coach.
Jeremy Helton recently submitted his resignation as head football coach at Charleston after one season, effective at the end of the school year.
"I have enjoyed my time in Southeast Missouri, as I have met many wonderful people here who have treated me fantastic," said Helton who has not accepted a position with another school district next season.
Charleston struggled to a 1-9 record in Helton's only season as head coach as the team struggled with low numbers.
"I feel like we made progress over the course of the season last season," Helton said. "I was disappointed with our record, but felt like we saw improvement in many areas.
"We struggled with numbers much of the season, some games dressing out less than 20 players. With the schedule we play, that makes it pretty tough to compete some weeks. I wish nothing but the best for the Charleston football program and the community of Charleston."
