But financial institutions are looking to change that and help more people achieve the American dream of homeownership by pushing the USDA Rural Development home financing programs.
"This is one of the best programs for low to moderate income families," said Whitney Watts, guaranteed housing loan specialist for Southeast Missouri. The fixed-rate 30-year loans require no money down, and have reasonable income limits -- for instance, a family of four with an adjusted gross income of $73,600 or less qualifies.
