NEW MADRID -- Jasimane Flennoy seemed to be unstoppable in New Madrid County Central's 64-52 win over the Chaffee Lady Devils on Thursday night.
Despite getting in early foul trouble, Flennoy was able to make the most of her time on the court, finishing the game with 22 points and 22 rebounds. She was able to pull down many of her rebounds on the offensive end and provided many second chance opportunities for the Lady Eagles.
Although pleased with Flennoy's offensive effort, NMCC head coach David Crockett was not completely satisfied.
"[Flennoy] can do that on any night," Crockett said. "She's going to get her points, but we need her to work harder on the defensive end if we're going to make a run."
Flennoy set the tone for NMCC from the start. She grabbed seven rebounds and scored four points in the first quarter before picking up two quick fouls that sent her to the bench.
Tameika Williams picked up right where her teammate left off, scoring eight of her game-high 23 points in the first quarter, and 15 points in the first half.
The Lady Eagles held a nine-point lead after one quarter of play, but the Lady Devils turned things around in the second quarter.
Chaffee narrowed their deficit to six points going in to halftime, and by the final minute of the third quarter, they found themselves right back in the ballgame.
At the 1:03 mark in the third, Chaffee's Taylor Kirchdoerfer hit two free throws to pull the Lady Devils to within one point, 41-40.
On NMCC's next possession, Flennoy was fouled and went to the line for two shots. Despite missing both free throws, the Lady Eagles came down with an offensive rebound and found Flennoy under the basket for an easy two points.
A short jumper from Flennoy put the Lady Eagles up 45-40 to start the fourth quarter.
Although the game had remained close to that point, free throw shooting woes throughout the final quarter would prove costly for the Lady Devils. Chaffee was sent to the free throw line for 12 attempts in the fourth quarter, but could knock down only four. Chaffee shot only 54% from the charity stripe for the game.
Meanwhile, the Lady Eagles posted their best offensive quarter of the game, putting up 21 points. As was the case in the previous three quarters, Jasimane Flennoy was too much for Chaffee to handle. She pulled down four rebounds to go along with eight points in the final eight minutes.
Despite the loss, Chaffee head coach Tyson Moyers was pleased with the effort from his team.
"We played sloppy at times but we played hard," Moyers said. "I think we gave a good effort, sometimes the ball just doesn't fall."
