ORAN -- The Oran Eagles got a big game from senior Gabe Kielhofner to lead them to a 78-41 win over the visiting Kelly Hawks. Kielhofner scored a game-high 22 points for his team on a night where he and his fellow senior athletes were honored before the game.

"It was a big game for Gabe," said Oran coach Joe Shoemaker. "He came out on senior night and played well. We're going to miss him a lot next year."

Oran got off to a hot start in the contest, capitalizing on eight Kelly turnovers in the first quarter and jumping out to a quick 10-0 lead. The Hawks finally got on the board at the 3:36 mark when Trent Felter, who scored 10 points in the contest, hit two free throws.

Eight first quarter points from Kielhofner helped give the Eagles a 20-9 lead after one quarter of play.

Along with the strong play of Kielhofner, Oran also benefitted from a solid performance from Jon Morrow. Morrow caused problems for the Hawks' defense all game, scoring 15 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.

"Morrow is a good player, and he's getting better every time I see him," said Kelly coach Nate Wills. "He's a handful for a team that is undersized like we are. If he establishes position, you're in trouble. You've got to fight him for position, because once he's anchored he's hard to get out of the way."

Kelly was able to slow the bleeding in the second quarter. They were outscored by only two points in the quarter, and found themselves facing a manageable 13-point deficit at halftime.

While the Hawks came out of the break looking to cut into Oran's lead, the Eagles had other ideas.

"We didn't play a great second quarter," said Shoemaker. "I talked to them about that at halftime, I told them we need to get out there and get some things taken care of. They responded well in the third quarter."

Another big quarter from Kielhofner allowed the Eagles to put the Hawks away for good in the third.

Oran was able to increase their lead slightly over the first four minutes of the quarter, leading 49-29 at the 4:02 mark. After a timeout, the Eagles went on a run that put the game well out of reach, outscoring Kelly 12-2 to close out the period.

Kielfhofner scored 10 points in the quarter, while Nathan Michelsen added eight of his 12 points in the frame. Kelly was able to put up only eight points to Oran's 25.

The running clock was in effect for all but two possessions in the fourth quarter. Oran outscored the Hawks 17-10 in the final period, and 42-18 in the second half.

In addition to Kielhofner and Morrow, Nathan Michelsen also reached double figures for the Eagles, putting up 12 points in the contest. Reece Mangels chipped in with nine.

Dustin Crowden joined Felter in double figures with a team-high 12 points.

Oran hosts the Class 2 District 3 tournament and will face Saxony Lutheran Saturday at 3:30.

Kelly will travel to Kennett where they will take on the top-seeded Indians in Class 3 District 1 action.

"They're a very good ball club, and coach [Jim] Vaughan does an excellent job with them," Wills said of Kennett. "They're fast and they put a lot of pressure on you, so we've got to be able to handle pressure and play some better defense than we did tonight and see if we can pull off an upset."
