One vote decides election in Tallapoosa

NEW MADRID - In a democracy, every person's vote counts, especially in an election with low voter turnout where one vote can apparently elect an alderman.

According to unofficial election returns provided by New Madrid County Clerk Clement Cravens just 2,131 voters cast ballots in Tuesday's municipal election out of the more than 13,000 registered voters in the county. But every vote was counted and in Tallapoosa, a single write-in vote for South Ward alderman has selected Anthony Brashears for the job.
