Local roundup: Dexter golfers top Sikeston, Jackson

DEXTER -- The host Dexter Bearcat golf team won its match on Tuesday afternoon at Hidden Trails Country Club in Dexter over the visiting Sikeston Bulldogs and Jackson Indians with a team score of 149.

Jackson came in second with a 161 while Sikeston shot a team 189.

Dexter's Chance Holden led the field with a 34 while getting a solid 35 from Jon Bowman to lead the Bearcats.

Evan Deere and Kirk Hoggatt for Sikeston both shot a 44 to led the Bulldogs.

BASEBALL

Malden 12, Risco 2

MALDEN -- The Risco Tigers four-game winning streak came to an end on Tuesday afternoon at the hands of the Malden Greenwave, 12-2 in five innings.

Even though both teams had an equal nine hits throughout, the Tigers added to Malden's run total with 12 free passes; 10 walks and two hit batsman.

"They beat us pretty good," Risco head coach Brandon Blankenship said. "But, the final score is not a very good indication of how we played.

"Our problem was walks. Our pitching wasn't there."

Chris Pavy was hit with the loss as the Greenwave tacked on eight runs in the second inning. Malden's Blakley Cook earned the win for the Greenwave.

Risco (5-3) is scheduled to play today at Naylor.

NMCC 22, East Prairie 0

EAST PRAIRIE -- The New Madrid County Central Lady Eagle softball team made short work of the East Prairie Lady Eagles on Tuesday afternoon with a 22-0 road win.

NMCC (7-0) scored five runs in the first inning and were never challenged as Kelly Robey and Michaela Townsend combined for a four inning no-hitter.

Robey tossed the first three innings, striking out nine while walking one to earn the win. Townsend tossed the final frame, striking out one and allowing one walk.

Dallas Campbell led NMCC at the plate, going 4-for-5 while scoring four runs. Sara Chapin also scored four runs while going 2-for-2 at the plate. Katie Rausch was 3-for-3 while Robey, Shelby Lawrence and Samantha Hunter were all 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
