NEW MADRID -- Kicking things off in the SEMO Conference Tournament Thursday afternoon, the ninth-seeded Kelly Hawks defeated the eighth-seeded New Madrid County Central Eagles 12-3.
The Hawks took control of the game early, scoring seven in the first and one in the second to take an 8-0 lead.
Kelly would round out their scoring with four more in the sixth.
Though NMCC would try to rally back, the Eagles offense couldn't close such a big gap, scoring two in the fourth and one in the sixth to round out the scoring.
While Kelly only out-hit NMCC 7-5 in the game, the deciding factor was the errors, as the Hawks only had two compared to the Eagle's seven.
Coming up with the majority of the Eagles offense on the afternoon, Kyle Harris had a solid performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double.
NMCC's other two hits came from Tim Clayton and C.J. Chism.
Taking the loss is Eagle's starter Gabe Smith, going 1/3 of an inning allowing seven runs and four walks.
With the win, Kelly advanced to play top-seeded Notre Dame Friday afternoon, losing to the Bulldogs 4-2. In other action Friday, Cape Central defeated Jackson 6-4 and Kennett defeated Poplar Bluff 14-0.
