Rendering of the Early Head Start Building
NEW MADRID -- Today's parents know preparing a child for success begins early. Soon, many parents will have a partner in that process with Early Head Start.

Area residents are already familiar with the Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corporation's Head Start, a preschool program for children ages 3 to 5. Early Head Start is designed for newborns to children up to age 3 and their families.

The Early Head Start program will be offered for the first time to qualifying families in Scott, New Madrid and Pemiscot counties beginning next fall. However, work is well under way with a new building planned in New Madrid and staff being hired and trained.

"We are excited and anxious and ready to get going," said Cindy Huey, director of DAEOC's Children's Services Department. "This is uncharted territory for us so there is a lot of learning ahead."
