FULTON -- The Chaffee girls and boys track and field teams had a stellar day at the Class 1, District 1 Meet Saturday in Fulton, with the girls leaving as district champs and the boys placing second.

It went down to the wire, but in the end the Lady Devils held off Chamois 129-124 to win the district crown. The Oran Lady Eagles finished fourth with 40 points.

On the boys side, Chamois ran away with the title, compiling 162 points while Chaffee finished second with 93. Oran finished sixth with 24.5 points.

"It was a good overall day for us both in the girls and the boys," said Chaffee girls coach Travis Calkins. "We're extremely happy. This might be the best Chaffee has done, having the girls and boys to finish first and second."

The meet had more than a team finish on the line as the top-four finishers in each event qualified for sectionals that will be held Saturday in Centralia and Chaffee will be taking plenty of athletes to the sectional meet.

Chaffee junior Luisa Boschan had a huge day, placing first in the 800-meter run (2:32.70), 1,600-meter run (5:33.08) and 3,200-meter run (12:52.52) and teaming with Taylor Kirchdoerfer, Sarah Sigman and Sierra Miller to win the 3,200-meter relay (10:48.21).

Sigman also had a big day for Chaffee. Besides running a leg in the 3,200-meter relay, the senior won the long jump with her personal best jump of 16-1. She also won the triple jump (31-11) and teamed with Anna Ayers, Kirchdoerfer and Ellie Sigman to place second in the 800-meter relay (1:57.09).

Kirchdoerfer placed fourth in the 800-meter run (2:39.86) while Ellie Sigman won the 200-meter dash (27.77) and took second in the long jump (15-4 1/2). Ayers placed fourth in the triple jump (27-5 1/2) while Stevie Schrum took third in the discus with a throw of 72-4 and Cassie Hindman took second in the 300-meter hurdles (54.60) and high jump (4-8).

The Lady Devils' 1,600-meter relay team, made up of Kirchdoerfer, Ayers, Sierra Miller and Ellie Sigman, finished in 4:33.54, nearly seven seconds ahead of their closest competition.

Chaffee wasn't the only team to have success in the girls side as Oran had their share of good finishes, led by Haley Glastetter.

The junior won the 100-meter hurdles (18.17) and took third in the 100-meter dash (13.52) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (28.57).

Oran freshman Baily Carlyle won the 300-meter hurdles (53.91) and placed second in the 100-meter hurdles (18.45).

On the boys side, Chaffee dominated in the relays, qualifying for sectionals in all four relay events.

The Red Devils won the 800-meter relay (1:37.01) with a team comprised of Tyson Estes, Jason Cicardi, Zac Dannenmueller and Jordan Yahn while the 1,600-meter relay team of Andy Terhune, Cicardi, Dannenmueller and Yahn also took first (3:42.00).

Terhune, Cicardi, Nathan Cicardi and Yahn finished second in the 3,200-meter relay (8:41.66) while the 400-meter relay team of Estes, Alvarrao Ingles Paz, Jordan Biggs and Darren Lee finished fourth with a time of 49.49.
