POPLAR BLUFF -- Sikeston tennis player Stuart Strom continued his stellar season on Saturday, winning the singles tournament in the Poplar Bluff Invitational.
Strom, who improved to 14-1 on the season, avenged his only loss of the season in the championship game, defeating Farmington's Drew Fuemmeler 8-4. The senior only lost six games in the entire tournament, defeating Farmington's Cody Herzog 8-1 in the quarterfinals and Poplar Bluff's Salman Sagarwala 8-1 in the semifinals.
"Stuart Strom had a great day, only dropping six games throughout the tournament," said Sikeston coach Russ Dial. "His win in the championship match will factor in his seed position in the district tournament."
Sikeston's Landon Hampton also competed in singles play, losing to Fuemmeler in the semifinals 8-1.
Sikeston's doubles team of Jacob Alsup and Jimmie Hines fell to Nick Hines and Sam Stahly of Poplar Bluff 8-1 while Josh Bill and Zach Thacker were blanked by Dexter's Dylan Acevedo and Tyler Miller 8-0.
