CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs soccer team put together a stellar defensive performance and defeated Cape Central 1-0 Tuesday afternoon.

Sikeston got their only goal in the 74th minute when Madison Chaney scored off an assist from senior Emily Eaves.

"It's always tough to get rolling on the road," said Sikeston coach Derrick Long. "We had plenty of opportunities to score in the first half, we just couldn't put the ball in the net. We continued to feed Kristin King and Keyonna Blissett because they make things happen up top."

Asia Liggins was outstanding in goal for the Lady Bulldogs, denying every Cape Central shot attempt while Long also credited Kelsey Jenkins with a stellar defensive performance, clearing shot after shot.

Sikeston (12-7) will host Fredericktown on Thursday before starting district play Monday against Festus.

The Sikeston junior varsity team lost to Cape Central 3-0.

MAYFIELD, Ky. -- The Sikeston Bulldogs improved to 16-7 on the season with a 4-2 win over Graves County, Ky., on Tuesday afternoon.

Sikeston had five hits in the game, three of them infield singles. Anderson and Nathan Rodgers each singled to go along with McMillan's double and two hits from Rice.
