EAST PRAIRIE -- Coming off an exciting come-from-behind win over Chaffee, East Prairie kept on rolling Wednesday afternoon taking down the visiting Bloomfield Wildcats.

After having to score two in the top of the seventh to beat Chaffee 2-1 on Tuesday, the Eagles were able to put up five runs in the first three innings against the Wildcats to eventually win 7-3.

"We took advantage of a couple of mistakes they made and scored a few runs," East Prairie coach Gary Scott said. "Got a few timely hits to score some runs, but overall I felt like we were sluggish. Just kind of not mentally focused today."

While scoring two in the second and three in the third, East Prairie was able to hold Bloomfield to only a single run in the third, giving East Prairie a 5-1 lead.

The Wildcats were able to put together a small rally in the fourth when, with runners on second and third, East Prairie's left fielder couldn't handle a fast dropping ball allowing both runners to score and bring Bloomfield back to within two runs.

Kicking the fifth off with an Aaron Miller double to center, the Eagles would quickly get those runs back with a single by Kaleb Williford scoring Miller and a double by Connor Scott scoring Williford.

Though Bloomfield would have runners on second and third in both in the fifth and in the sixth, the Wildcats would come up empty handed on both occasions with a strikeout ending each inning.

"We couldn't string (many hits) together," Bloomfield coach Jason Karnes said. "We couldn't ever get anything going in a flow. We would get a couple guys on and the next thing you know we're getting outs.

"I know we left runners on second and third on two different occasions and that's just two too many."

The Wildcats end up with six hits on the afternoon with lead-off hitter Logan Cowart leading the team with three including a double. The teams other three came from Austin Williamson, who had two, and Travis Phillips.

Relieving starter Paul Fox in the second Adam Vandiver takes the loss, going 4 2/3 innings allowing five runs and seven hits while striking out four.

With the loss Bloomfield finishes its regular season at 6-11.

For the Eagles all eight of the teams hits came from the top five in the order. Miller, Williford and Scott all tied for the team lead with two apiece.

Going 5 1/3 innings start Ryan Mathis picks up the win, improving his record to 4-1. Mathis allowed three runs on four hits while striking out eight and walking three.

With only one game left before districts this Saturday, East Prairie stands at 12-8.

They'll play Oran today at 4 p.m.
