Sikeston's Deere is 42nd place while Hoggatt is in 89th

SPRINGFIELD -- Dexter jumped out of the gate quickly at the Class 3 Golf State Championships, finishing in second place after one day of play at Island Green Golf Club.

Dexter shot a 316 as a team to put them 17 shots behind leader, Westminster Christian Academy. Pembroke Hill, St. Francis Borgia and Warrensburg all sit with 316 as well.

Senior Chance Holden led Dexter, shooting a 73, good enough for third place overall, three shots behind leader Kevin Bell of Westminster Christian Academy.

Dexter's Cody Stevens and Sikeston sophomore Evan Deere both shot 80 and sit in a tie for 42nd. Dexter senior Jon Bowman is 51st with an 81 while the Bearcats' Brennen Justice shot an 82 for 59th place.

Sikeston freshman Kirk Hoggatt is tied for 89th after posting an 86 while Dexter's Logan Robey shot an 87 for 97th place.

Action will finish up today at Island Green Golf Club.

Class 2

In Class 2, New Madrid County Central's Lofton Hayes sits in 55th place after posting an 89 in the first round while teammate Reese Porter shot a 95 and is in 89th place.

Bloomfield's Blake Cox fired a 90 for 61st place while Seth Hill shot a 94 for 82nd place.

Class 1

Only one local golfer is taking place in Class 1, as Richland's Parker Evans posted a 102 to sit in 88th place.
