Chaffee's Luisa Boschan was the only athlete to win a gold medal on Friday with a victory in the Class 1 1,600-meter run. Boschan finished seven seconds better than the next in line with a time of 5:20.19. Boschan also qualified for the 800-meter run as well.
Teammates Ellie Sigman and Sarah Sigman each faired well in the long jump. Ellie Sigman finished second with a jump of 15-5 1/2 while her older sister, Sarah, ended seventh.
The Chaffee girls failed to qualify in both the 4x400 and 4x200 relay.
Haley Glastetter of Oran qualified in the 100-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash.
The Chaffee boys ended in fifth place in the 4x800 relay. They also qualified in the 4x200 and the 4x400 while sophomore Jordan Yahn qualified for the 800-meter.
In Class 2, the Scott City Rams and Lady Rams were well represented.
Brandon Shemonia finished third in the 3200-meter run with a time of 9:45.14. Alex Eichhorn finished 10th in the shot put while Garett Schaefer qualified for the 200-meter dash. As a team, the Scott City Rams qualified for the 4x100-meter relay but failed to do so in the 4x200 finals.
Stephanie Essner qualified in the 400-meter, the same event she claimed first place in a year ago. Melanie Lacey finished 12th in the 1600-meter. As a team, the Lady Rams qualified in the 4x200 but was denied the 4x400-meter relay.
Charleston's Deonte Jones finished fifth in the long jump while East Prairie's Jennifer Nicholson finished fourth in the shot put. Kelly's Londyn Backfisch captured an 8th place finish in the high jump and also qualified for the 200-meter dash.
Each event that all athletes qualified in was finished on Saturday. Results for the final day of the Class 1 and 2 championships will be in the Monday edition of the Standard Democrat.
