SIKESTON -- Groups of Sikeston and Charleston youth were acknowledged for their jump roping skills during a recent state competition in Jefferson City.
Double Dutch jump roping teams, formed through Lincoln University Extension in Sikeston, competed in mid-May at the Show Me the Ropes Competition in Jefferson City. The event was sponsored by Missouri Department of Health and Senior Service's Office of Minority Health and Lincoln University Extension of Jefferson City.
Lincoln University Extension's Charleston team took first prize, the Caruthersville team came in second, and the Sikeston team in fifth place.
Felecia DeMyers Anderson, youth-at risk specialist for Lincoln Extension in Sikeston, helped students with their routine choreography.
"I was very proud. They really deserved it. They did. They beat out teams from Kansas City, Jefferson City and St. Louis," Anderson said.
