ORAN -- A rough outing for the Lids Missouri Bulls who, after taking an early two-run lead saw the game slip away, falling to the Midwest Chiefs 6-3 Friday afternoon in the second annual SEMO Invitation.

"We didn't play very well today," Bulls coach Mitch Woods said. "Our pitching struggled a little bit and hitting wise I thought that there was definitely pitchers we could hit.

"I thought it was one of the weaker games we played."

After three innings Missouri had pulled ahead to a 2-0 lead. Midwest responded however with three runs in the third inning as, in three consecutive at bats, Alec Logue, Jay Worthham and Blake Elsner all drove in a run.

The Bulls would inch back closer in the bottom of the inning as Daniel Lockhert hit a single to drive in Daniel Koehler to bring Missouri to within two at 5-3.

Unfortunately for the Bulls a comeback wouldn't be in the cards, however, as they wouldn't put up a hit in the final three innings falling 6-3 after the Chiefs added an insurance run in the seventh.

"We let that one go," Jamie Scholz said. "We should have beat that team. We had a few hard hits, but had a lot of pop ups and a lot of balls that could have been hit harder."

For the game, Missouri had a combined seven hits with Lockhert and Logan Dollins leading the team with two apiece.

While unhappy with Friday's results, Scholz said he knows his team is capable of playing much better.

"If we come out and play the way we can we can beat anybody," he said. "If we play like (today) we aren't going to beat many teams."
