Bulls limit Chaffee to only one hit in two games

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Only allowing a single hit in their double-header with the Chaffee summer team on Tuesday evening, the Missouri Bulls rode to an easy victory in both contest.

Winning on the mercy-rule, the Bulls took the first game 10-0 in five innings of play, following that with a 15-0 decision in the second game, also lasting five frames.

"We haven't played all weekend, so I was a little leery of how we would come out," Bulls coach Mitch Wood said. "I think the rest did us some good as far coming out and doing some things."

In the first contest Missouri did all its damage in the first three innings, scoring four in the first, two in the second and four more in the third.

All the while, Bulls pitching would keep the Red Devils offense at bay, allowing two walks in the contest, but no hits.

Four pitchers were used to collect the no-hit game with starter Neil Johnson pitching the first two innings, followed by Landon Robert, Jordan Anderson and Ian Householder coming in for an inning each.

Chaffee wouldn't fair much better in their second match-up and, despite loading the bases at one point, were still unable to bring a run home to break out of their funk.

They would however break up Missouri's no-hit bid, with Andrew Terhune hitting a grounder between the shortstop and third baseman in the fourth inning for the Red Devils only hit of the night.

Meanwhile, the Bulls would go on to score in every inning they batted, including eight runs in the third, to take the 15-0 win.

"I know we played a very talented team tonight, pretty much an all-star team, but we had ten innings of at bats and only one hit," Chaffee coach Aaron Horrell said. "We made 30 outs and had one hit all night. We had a few guys walked, but not many base runners tonight.

"You have to try to want to put the ball in play and get some big time hits and right now we're just not doing that."

Chaffee's next match up will come when they visit the Charleston Fighting Squirrels Thursday at 6 p.m.
