Sikeston R-6 working with surplus, for now

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston R-6 School District's budget for the 2010-2011 school year may be balanced with a surplus just over $100,000, but board of education members and administrators know that could change on any given day.

"The budget surplus looks good on paper, but the reality is that we expect more revenue cuts during the fiscal year," said Sikeston R-6 Business Services Director Lori Boardman.

More than one financial forecaster has suggested that the confirmed 4 percent cut to the state formula will not be sufficient, and districts should anticipate up to an additional 2 percent cut -- this one cut would reduce the district's revenue by $260,000, Boardman said.
